Clean Energy Utilization

The key issues this stream is going to address is the evaluation of the extent to which large PV installations coupled with appropriate back-up energy storage can contribute to system dynamic performance in terms of angular and frequency stability. Initial selection of potential feasible locations for installation of PV and storage plants (which may not be co-located due to space requirements) will be based on the requirement to improve power transfer capability. The candidate locations will be then subject to “quasi-optimisation” process to select the best location in terms of additional contribution that selected locations could offer to system dynamic behaviour.

Objectives

  • Investigate the change in system dynamics following the integration of PV and different storage technologies and modes of deployment (centralised vs distributed)
  • Develop appropriate angular/frequency stability indices to assess the contribution of PV and storage to network dynamics through the year.
