Quantifying the benefits of deploying demand optimisation in the management of the remote standalone systems
Given the high cost associated with deployment of renewable energy systems, it is important to ensure that energy use is efficiently and effective avoiding wastage as much as possible. Where demand can be deferred to avoid investment in generation capacity, this should be done. Demand response is one of tools in the smart grid tool kit which can be deployed to manage demand enabling demand to follow supply rather the other way round. This work investigate the application of demand response as an effective means of optimising demand and quantify the benefits of such approaches within rural communities.
Objectives
- Review issues related to application of demand response in rural communities to inform development of such approaches in rural communities
- Develop demand response model for rural application in rural community and quantify its benefits
